Authorities Send Cases of Yim Sinan and Hun Kosal to Court on Two Charges

PHNOM PENH: The spokesman of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, Colonel San Sok Seiha, confirmed to EAC News that as of 2 pm on Wednesday, the authorities have built a case to send Mr. Yim Sinorn and Mr. Hun Kosal to court.

According to Colonel San Sok Seiha, authorities sent them to court on the afternoon of 22 March 2023 on two charges: incitement to commit offences and insulting the King.

A spokesman confirmed that Yim Sinorn was detained in Dangkoa district and Hun Kosal was detained in the Por Sen Chey district. They were then brought in for questioning by the Phnom Penh Municipal Police on the evening of 21 March 2023.

While two former opposition activists were being detained on 22 March, the Prime Minister was at the graduation ceremony for the Vanda Institute where he announced that he would not tolerate either of them. The Prime Minister had excused Mr. Yim Sinan in the past, but stated that this time he will not accept an apology from either of them.

Insulting the King, according to the Law on the Amendment of the 2018 Penal Code, carries the potential of a 1 to 5 years prison sentence and a fine between 2 million and 10 million riels.
